Graduation 2017 - Meet Cat The Vet

    28 September 2017

    A word from...

Cat Henstridge, also known as Cat the Vet.

Cat is a veterinary surgeon, blogger and television star, featuring on programmes including The Pets Factor, on CBBC, and Animal Madhouse on Channel 4.

Cat was the guest speaker at the morning Graduation ceremony last week, which included the graduation of students who completed veterinary nursing, veterinary physiotherapy and wider animal sciences courses.

Cat said: “I am really flattered to have been asked to be here. I know the most about the veterinary nursing qualifications at Harper Adams, although the university does much more than that. I’m a massive advocate of properly trained veterinary nurses, of protecting the title of Registered Veterinary Nurse and of having them recognised as professionals in their own right. So to be here and able to congratulate the graduates is brilliant. They are really important parts of the veterinary team it’s great to recognise that.

“This is is the start of the amazing career. If you stay within your chosen career path that’s great and your degree is going to help you there but even if you choose to move somewhere else, you will always have your degree. And a vocational degree opens an enormous amount of doors because you learn a lot academically, but you also gain a huge amount of practical skills.

“Whenever you work with animals, people always say ‘Oh isn’t it amazing that you get to work with animals everyday’, but actually in the vast majority of animal-based careers it’s not about the animals, it’s about the people: the people who own them and the people who you work with. I don’t know what it is about animal-based careers that attract that attracts the very best people, but it does. Every team that I have ever worked with has been staffed by the most amazing, dedicated and caring people. That’s the reason why I love my job and the students graduating now are those people!”

Thank you Cat The Vet for joining us on Friday!
