Emily Kate Smith, from Bishampton, Worcestershire, is now a doctor of philosophy after completing her PhD project: “The effect of agricultural traffic and tillage on soil physical properties and crop yields.”
The AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds knowledge transfer manager said: “My experience at Harper Adams allowed me to develop valuable professional and personal development skills. Doing my PhD was challenging but very rewarding. I was supported by a team of staff and fellow students, many of whom became close friends.
“Currently I work across the UK, covering the Cereals & Oilseeds national knowledge exchange programme, which brings together researchers and groups of farmers to develop practical & relevant business management strategies.
“In the future I’d like to work with farmers and researchers to deliver practical and timely information which supports the UK agricultural industry to become more resilient by developing on-farm innovations to increase productivity and competitiveness,” added Dr Smith.
