A group of MSc and MProf Rural Estate and Land Management (REALM) postgraduate students have visited the private bank C Hoare & Co. in London.
C Hoare & Co. is the only remaining privately owned bank in the UK, and was founded in 1672. Previously, representatives from C Hoare & Co. have visited Harper Adams as visiting speakers for both REALM undergraduate final year and postgraduate students.
Principal Lecturer and Postgraduate Coordinator, Carrie de Silva, said: “The opportunity was greatly appreciated.
“The bank were keen to meet prospective land agents, along with sharing the bank's role in estate management.
“The day involved a number of talks, including one from a senior partner, Simon Hoare, and another from the bank’s wealth management associates, Cazenove Capital.
“After the talks, the students took a tour of the Fleet Street premises, which houses paintings, antiques and archives going back to the bank’s foundation in the late 17th century.
“A further tour showed the group around the bank’s private museum, which attracts a diverse range of researchers. To cap the day off, the students had the opportunity to enjoy a lunch and chat informally with current members of staff.
“Next year, we hope to be able to offer this trip to not only current postgraduate students, but also postgraduate alumni and final year undergraduate REALM students.
“We are also furthering our links with the bank as I’m arranging a two day short course on the Harper Adams campus for some of the bank’s employees.”
