Harper Adams University alumnus Ben Logan is competing against other entrepreneurs for the chance to win an investment from the Richard Branson’s Virgin Media VOOM pitching competition.
The 24-year-old from Craigavon, County Armagh, explains that: “Scanitt allows users to shop at a pace that suits them; not only can you avoid the queues at checkouts, but you can check if an item is stocked in your size or simply order what you want to your door.
“Scanitt is also able to provide information on products, offering the consumer full traceability and peace of mind. Consumer trends are changing, and time is the new currency. We want to give as much of that precious time back to you the consumer.
“The initial idea came to me while having a brain storming session and then started to grow once I began looking at targeted industry and market potential.”
Ben, who previously studied FdSc Agricultural Engineering (extended) at Harper Adams, added: “I saw the VOOM competition, and thought I’d enter as I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
“I initially found it very nerve racking to talk directly to the camera, and anyone who knows me, knows that I normally don’t struggle with talking!
“The investment would be a fantastic aid to the business as tech start-ups are notoriously expensive in the early stages; you’re trying to create something unique with a team of creative individuals and it takes time to maximise the idea’s potential when building initial prototypes.
“If we were able to secure investment, it would be put towards scaling the business at a sustainable rate.
“I’d like to thank everyone who’s supported me already and would appreciate any votes if you like the concept.”
