Olivia Parkin, BSc (Hons) Agriculture student, has been awarded the Butchers and Drovers Scholarship at Harper Adams University.
Olivia, 20, from Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, said: “I’m very privileged to have received this scholarship and thank the Butchers and Drovers Charitable Institution for aiding me in the funding of my studies.
“The scholarship will enable me to carry out additional courses such as artificial insemination, foot trimming and trailer training to help broaden my knowledge and experiences.
“For three generations, my family has been involved in the butchering industry which started with my grandma and grandad. Now my parents, auntie and uncle run three shops between them.
“After graduation, my aspiration is to go back to the family business, after experiencing several years in the nutrition of cattle. I’d like to be able to take that knowledge with me in order to help enhance profitability of our third-generation butcher’s shops.”
