Anglia Farmers recognise business students for going above and beyond while at Harper Adams
17 May 2018

Two Harper Adams University business students Cherry Metcalfe and Max Randall have won this year’s Anglia Farmers Extra Mile Awards.
The Extra Mile Awards are presented to students who, in the view of the judges, have committed themselves to getting the most out of their time at university and who have helped to improve the overall university experience for their fellow students.
Senior tutor, Jane Headley said: “The Anglia Farmers Extra Mile Awards provide the opportunity to recognise our Business students for their wider involvement at Harper.
"Now the awards are in their third year, we are very grateful to the team at Anglia Farmers who support and judge this award. Cherry and Max are worthy winners from a strong set of applications this year and I offer them my congratulations.”
The judges described Cherry as a standout candidate who had clearly gone above and beyond to embrace every opportunity at Harper Adams. The 22-year-old from Market Weighton, York, is in her final year of studying the BSc (Hons) Agri-Business degree, in which she has been course representative for four years. Cherry has also been a student ambassador representing the business courses at University Open Days.
The judges said: “Cherry has shown an exemplary attitude towards engaging with existing students as well as attracting new applicants. The judges were incredibly impressed by Cherry’s passion for helping others, in particular by volunteering as a proof reader to help first year business students.”
Max impressed the judges with his pro-active approach to university life through his role as student amabassador and taking on extra duties such as blogging for an animal bedding company. The 21-year-old from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, studies BSc (Hons) Agri-food Marketing with Business Studies and was described by the judges as a clear candidate for the Extra Mile Award.
The judges said: “Max’s diligence and commitment to promoting the excellent education on offer at Harper Adams is demonstrated through being awarded the Rabobank Scholarship. As part of this scholarship, Max took full advantage of a year’s placement at Marks & Spencer and the judges were keen to recognise his forethought in writing a guidebook explaining how best to take advantage of such opportunities.”
