James joined the department in September 2016, having worked for twenty years at the Surrey Business School in their retail team. He has industry experience from previous employment in food retailing operations, and from many years as an elected member representative with the Co-operative Group.
James has substantial, previous programme director experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He is currently contributing to modules in marketing, retailing, consumer behaviour and food supply chain management.
James studied performance management in food retail operations as the focus for his DBA, and specifically the use of corporate and informal performance indicators in this context. Food retailing as a service operation remains the focus of his interest. Other interests include retail strategy and consumer co-operatives.
