Dr Nilantha Jayasuriya

Postdoctoral Research Associate

I am a veterinarian, who has expertise in fish health and welfare in the UK. After completing my undergraduate studies (BVSc) in Sri Lanka, I obtained an MSc and a PhD in Aquatic Veterinary studies from the University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. Many years, I have involved in different disciplines of fish research including fish health and welfare at the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, with close collaboration with the aquaculture industry. My most recent position as a Research Associate at the University of Bristol, allowed to broaden my research expertise into fish welfare, addressing the current opinion of the European Union on fish welfare ‘to minimise pain and suffering by employing suitable, adequate stunning prior to the slaughter processes. I am keen to explore further avenue in fish biology, disease investigations understanding disease resistance in aquaculture species providing positive contribution to the growing industry.
