Students raise charity cash at clay shoot
Posted 12 March 2010
A charity clay pigeon shoot organised by Harper Adams students raised £550 for Help For Heroes.
The event, held at Doveridge Clay Shooting ground, Derbyshire, on March 6, was organised by the Harper Adams Field Sports Society, in conjunction with the Harper Adams Clay Shooting Club.
The University College’s Sports and Societies Coordinator, Ben Harper, said he had received a lot of positive feedback on the day, with people were saying how good the set up was at Doveridge and how challenging the targets were.
Doveridge provided the facility for the event and the two clubs from Harper provided the manpower to run it.
Field Sports Society Chairman James Irving said: “I am delighted how the day went and with the amount raised for such a good cause.” James also serves as an Army Cadet Instructor, at Newport, whilst he is studying at Harper, so the Help for Heroes cause is important to him.
The results for the competition were as follows:
1st Tim Simmons score of 44/50
2nd P Bloomfield 43
3= Jason Allaway 42
Kevin Miller 42
Team trophies were won by:
1st “Silly Sids” (Doveridge)
2nd “The Dream Team” (Doveridge)
3rd “The Bandits” (Doveridge)
Special thanks are due to all involved and especially to Doveridge for hosting the event, and for making a generous donation towards the total raised.
