Harper staff bike for a free lunch

Staff at Harper Adams University College have been celebrating Team Great Britain Bike Week and those who cycled to work were rewarded with free meals.

As part of the ‘celebrations' to promote cycling as a healthy alternative to driving, Harper Adams, held a Cycle to Work Day on Tuesday. Any member of staff who cycled to work that day was able to claim a free breakfast courtesy of the catering department.

At lunchtime, those who joined the Cycle to Work Scheme and those who cycle to work regularly, met up with their bikes.

Martin Evans, web systems developer at the University College , led the way with a lunch-time cycle ride around the local countryside.

Martin, who cycles to work three or four times a week, said: “I’m really pleased with how many people have turned out to cycle to work, it’s always more than I expect.

“We cycled to Ercall Heath, just over seven miles away, which took about 45 minutes there and back. We had one flat tyre and someone else had to change their inner tubes but we all made it back for our sandwiches.”

All those who took part were treated to a free sandwich, crisps and drink, again courtesy of the catering department.
