Direct accreditation for Harper vet nurses

Veterinary nursing courses at Harper Adams will now be directly accredited by the University College, meaning that students will receive a professional qualification at the end of their studies.

Undergraduate students will no longer have to sit external exams, but instead by passing all of their assessments at Harper they will receive the ‘Veterinary Nursing Certificate’ with their degree at graduation.

This has been awarded by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in light of the recent success of graduates from these courses. Only four other degree providers in this subject have this status.

Dr Erica Martin, Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Nursing, said: “I am really pleased that Harper Adams Veterinary nursing courses are now directly accredited by the RCVS.

“This is great for the students and is a reflection on the hard work put in by our superb staff team and the success of our students.

“However, Harper will still have an annual inspection visit from the RCVS and self assessment forms will need to be completed to maintain our current high standards.”

The direct accreditation will be applicable to students who began their studies in 2008, with graduation in 2011/12.
