Big names booked for charity comedy event
Posted 5 April 2011
A host of top British comedians will be heading to Shropshire next month for a charity comedy event at Harper Adams University College.
The line-up for ‘Comedy in the Country’ on May 22 includes Jimmy Carr, Russell Kane, Rufus Hound, Jack Whitehall, Carl Donnelly and Keith Farnan, with one act yet to be announced.
Proceeds will go towards to NSPCC, Severn Hospice, Self Help Africa, Help for Heroes and Face charities.
Student Union President, Peter Dodd, has been busy organising the gala for the past ten months, with help from a team of students.
He said: “This event promises to be one of the biggest comedy events of its kind in the country this year.
“It has been kindly sponsored by Marston’s brewery, among other companies, and we’re really pleased that the acts have been so supportive and are taking the time to come to Harper Adams to support the charities.
“Hopefully we can raise in excess of £20k.”
The acts will perform for around 30 minutes each to the thousands of visitors expected to attend the gala at the University College near Newport.
Tickets cost £40-45 and are already under huge demand with interest from all over the county.
