IIP accreditation renewed
Posted 27 April 2011
Harper Adams University College’s continued support for its staff has been rewarded with the renewal of its Investors in People (IIP) accreditation.
IIP is a national training standard that aims to help organisations achieve their objectives through the training and development of their people. Harper Adams has received whole-institution recognition for this commitment since 2003.
IIP sets out levels of good practice for the training, development and motivation of staff, and these are rated through a series of one-to-one interviews with an IIP assessor.
Earlier this year, 52 Harper Adams employees were interviewed by an IIP Assessor, who found that:
• Harper Adams has a clear vision and mission, underpinned by strategic priorities, which most people could explain in their own words.
• People trust members of the executive and senior manager to make appropriate decisions to ensure the on-going viability of the organisation
• There was a high level of support for learning and development throughout the institution, with many examples of individuals developing their knowledge and skills in a wide range of disciplines
• Communications were good, with a variety of opportunities to both give and receive updates and feedback
• The majority of people feel they are recognised for doing a good job and people receive regular, informal praise and thanks from their line manager.
Harper Adams Principal Dr David Llewellyn said: “We are delighted with the outcome of our assessment which shows that we continue to perform at a nationally recognised standard in terms of developing and supporting our staff. Universities are all about people – and we have a dedicated and committed staff who work hard to ensure that our academic activities, and the experience we provide for our students, are amongst the best in the higher education sector.”
