Health and safety seminar for land agents

Land agents are invited to sign up for a one-day seminar at Harper Adams University College, focussing on health and safety compliance for those engaging self-employed workers. 

The event, on March 22, will update delegates on recent court cases, and present a range of case studies. There will also be a question and answer session with a panel including Liz Evans from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Seminar leader Carrie de Silva, who will also serve on the panel, explained: “Following the successful prosecution of a firm of land agents by the HSE on the sad death of a sub-contractor carrying out property maintenance work, there has been understandable concern in the profession, given the range of such staff, decorators, forestry, farm and equine workers, etc. with whom rural practitioners and their clients regularly work, often in potentially high risk roles. 

“These will typically be ‘sole trader’, lone workers and firms will be keen to ensure compliance with the law and, importantly, to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of any such workers they have dealings with.”

This seminar will set out the scope of obligations, suggest a template for compliance and provide an opportunity to explore situations which delegates may have encountered in practice.
