Six students from Burton Borough School in Newport have been on work experience at Harper Adams University College.
Isobel Taylor, Abi Tonks, Matt Williams, Tizzy Huntington, Aaron Brunger and Adam Taphouse are all year 10 students and have been working in various locations across campus.
15-year-old Abi has been in the Catering Department helping to serve customers. She said: “I chose to come to Harper Adams because I thought it would be an interesting place to work and to see the different sorts of things you can do at the university.
“I’ve learnt good customer service and the importance of time keeping. Although I’m not interested in catering, I’m quite interested in childcare.”
Aaron has been working with Abi in the Catering Department but has been helping in the kitchens preparing meals.
Isobel, 15, has spent her work experience in the Press Office with Communications Manager, Jaclyn Green and Video Journalist, Janine Heath.
She said: “My main project has been producing a video of Abi’s work experience, as well as helping to edit other videos and write press releases.
“It’s been hard as the working hours are different to school, but I’ve enjoyed learning new skills.” To view Isobel's video, see above.
Matt and Tizzy have been working on the farm, while Adam has been in the IT Department.
The majority of year 10 students in England need to complete a week of work experience. Harper Adams offers placements in most departments on campus.
