Harper Adams University has been announced today as a finalist in the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2013.
The university has been shortlisted in the most coveted category – ‘Outstanding Leadership and Management Team’, sponsored by the Leadership Foundation.
The award recognises an institution that demonstrates the greatest breadth and depth of leadership and management skills, including those recognised in other award categories.
Harper Adams gained full university title in late 2012 and this shortlisting is the first to be achieved under the new status. It is also the third consecutive time that the university has been chosen in this particular category.
Vice-Chancellor, Dr David Llewellyn, said: “The past year has been outstanding for Harper Adams University - strategically and operationally.
“With challenges facing both the higher education sector and our key business focus in the rural and farming communities, including low milk prices and extreme weather, the institution’s leadership and management team was tested at all levels.
“We are delighted that the hard work of staff at the university has been recognised with this short-listing.”
Harper Adams has shone in league tables – the National Student Survey placed it sixth in the sector whilst the Sunday Times University Guide rated it third for teaching excellence. UCAS acceptances were up by 8% despite a sector-wide decline and the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey placed Harper Adams third with 98.3%.
But the university’s success is not just constrained to the UK. A successful bid saw it become a member of the Science without Borders programme linking with Brazil, and two new partnerships with Chinese universities have been established.
Dr Llewellyn, added: “These results are only a taste of what Harper Adams has achieved during the past year.
“Without commitment from the entire university community, right from the Board of Governors to staff and students, we would not be in the position we are today.
“Being short-listed for a Times Higher Education Leadership and Management award has allowed us to share with the HE sector the work that Harper Adams is doing to address global food security.”
Winners of the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2013 will be announced at a gala dinner on June 20 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
