A cutting-edge IT solution devised for Harper Adams University has won a national Green IT Award.
The awards showcase and reward the technology, tools and solutions as well as the companies and organisations that have made a significant contribution to improving the IT industry's environmental performance over the past 12 months.
At Harper Adams in 2011, ‘Intuitive Dashboards’ was introduced as an integral part of a programme opening up on-demand information reporting across the university.
The software, from Intuitive Business Intelligence Ltd, helps the broadest range of users gain access, on demand, to information which would have traditionally been buried in a range of applications used to support management and teaching.
The initiative was selected in the ‘Environmental Project of the Year in the Public Sector’ category, with winners revealed at the fourth Green IT Awards ceremony, held this year at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
Head of Information Services at Harper Adams, Roger Greenhalgh, said: “By implementing Intuitive Dashboards, we have the capability to give access to bespoke, customisable dashboards, displaying the key information which staff and students may need in an easy-to-understand, graphical format.
“This is a key step in giving managers and academic staff the ability to monitor key business processes and performance in real-time. With just a couple of mouse-clicks, they can immediately drill down to identify the root cause of any issues and take any required corrective action.
“Our ability to do this across such a diverse range of systems has been fantastic; therefore we are delighted that our collaboration with Intuitive Business Intelligence Ltd has culminated with the achievement of this award.”
Intuitive Dashboards gives users instant, real-time access to the information that is most important to them.
It has helped staff at Harper Adams to be more flexible and agile, instantly identifying issues to respond to quickly.
Roger added: “Intuitive Dashboards has reduced our carbon emissions and helped us to meet our green targets.
“As well as dramatically reducing the number of printers, printed reports and associated emissions, Intuitive Dashboards monitors numerous systems such as energy production from our anaerobic digester plant, energy utilisation by room, PC and printer usage, carbon foot-print and our recycling targets.”
