First years secure McConnel scholarships
Posted 1 March 2014
Two first year students have secured engineering scholarships sponsored by McConnel.
Andrew Oram, 20, from Bridgwater, Somerset is studying BEng (Hons) Agricultural Engineering. He said: “The scholarship has given me a feeling of security with my finances. I am very thankful and grateful to the McConnel group for choosing me to receive one of their scholarships. The money will greatly help me with studies at Harper Adams. I want to thank my parents, as they are fully behind me in my choice to go into higher education.”
Hywel Phillips, 19, from Haverfordwest, is a first year student on the MEng Agricultural Engineering course at Harper Adams. He said: “This award gives me a chance to have a contact within industry, which is fundamental at an age when I will be writing work placement and job applications in the close future.
“Not only that, but having being awarded a scholarship from a leading manufacturing company in Britain gives me something to put on my CV that will really stand out. Financially it helps me greatly as it gives me a head start in paying off my student fees and takes the pressure off trying to keep on top of my finances so much.
“My ambitions are to gain a top class degree from Harper Adams University and hopefully carry out a research study in the future to gain a doctorate. I would like to see myself work in research and development in the future.”
