Alumnus carrying cask of ale 100 miles to Harper Adams

    Posted 13 May 2014

Andrew set off from the Force HQ this morning

A former Harper Adams student will be making a homecoming with a difference on Saturday – when he arrives on campus after carrying a cask of ale 100 miles over five days.

Harper Adams University will be the finishing point for Andrew Mason’s big challenge in aid of the Natalie Kate Moss Trust.

The challenge began this morning at the Cirencester HQ of Force Brewery, which is sponsoring the cask carry and has even created a special brew – Brute Force – to acknowledge the tenacity of the challenge.

Andrew, 25, who graduated with a degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management in 2012, said: “Natalie Kate Moss had a personality that could not go unnoticed, she was loved by many and made an impact on everything that she put her hand to. In December 2011, she died at the age of 26 from a bleed on the brain, and from that day those who knew her lost somebody that forever would be remembered as quite simply one of the best girls to have graced our lives.

“To acknowledge Natalie's life and to support research into the condition, I wanted to do something pretty epic that will hopefully bring a smile to people’s faces in remembrance of her.”

While Andrew has been hard at work training for the challenge, his sister Laura Mason has been organising all of the logistics, with assistance from friends and family.

Laura said: “We are delighted that Harper Adams is hosting the race finish and we are encouraging as many people as possible to turn out and cheer Andrew in at the end of his 100-mile cask carry.

“It will be a day full of music, good food and, of course, barrels full of excellent ale!  So dance, sing, be merry and help prop Andrew up when he crosses that finish line. Join us on May 17th at 1.30pm at Harper Adams University.”
