While children across the country donned superhero costumes for BBC Children in Need, a Harper Adams University lecturer did her own bit of dressing up.
Nicky Hunter, Senior Lecturer in Ecology and Environmental Science, decided to wear a pair of Pudsey ears throughout her lecture on ‘intraspecific competition’, part of the Introduction to Ecology module studied by animal behaviour, animal welfare, countryside, environment and wildlife students.
“BBC Children in Need aims to raise funds to change the lives of disabled children and young people in the UK. In order to raise some funds for this deserving charity, I decided I could handle a little humiliation in exchange for donations from my students.
“There are 55 of them taking the module, so I suggested a minimum donation of 55p, so that when combined with my own £20 donation, we could hopefully raise £50 from something so simple, in just one hour.
“I left a collection box beside the notes they collect at the end of the lecture and left it to the students’ discretion. By lunchtime we had more than £55 with more donations being added as word spread
“Next year we might go all out and wear pyjamas for the lecture!”
