First visit by RICS Global President

Harper Adams University hosted its first visit by a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Global President yesterday. 

Louise Brooke-Smith, RICS Global President and Managing Director of Birmingham-based Brooke Smith Planning, was given a tour of the campus by Vice-Chancellor Dr David Llewellyn ahead of joining a course team meeting over lunch, where she learned more about the university’s Rural Enterprise and Land Management (REALM) and Rural Property Management courses and efforts to promote careers in rural surveying. 

First year students gave a parade of honour with ranging rods, echoing the emblem of the RICS lion holding a ranging rod and organised by REALM Course Manager Simon Keeble, on the path the RICS President took to reach the new Weston Building, where she gave a talk to students on how she became a Chartered surveyor, and setting out her and the RICS’ objectives.

The visit concluded with a talk to the final year students on RICS’ international Property measurement standards, International Codes of conduct and ethics, as well as housing in BRISC countries.

Dr Llewellyn said: “We were delighted that Louise Brooke-Smith was able to take time out of her busy schedule to visit the University and meet our students and staff.  Her presentation about the work of the RICS was inspiring and I am sure that our students will have gained much from what Louise had to say.”
