Two managers from Harper Adams University have been shortlisted for the new University Business Young Leaders Awards.

The Awards seek to recognise the inspirational and dedicated under-30s working at or in partnership with universities across the UK. Janine Heath and Laura Coulthard, from the Marketing and Communications Team at Harper Adams, are two of three finalists in the “Marketing Magician” award category.

“The university is privileged to have two such highly talented young people working within its marketing department,” said Lorraine Westwood, Director of Marketing and Communications at the university.

“Janine and Laura’s success in being shortlisted for these awards is testament to their skill, hard work and dedication and the fact that Harper Adams staff fill two of the three shortlist positions is also evidence of the opportunity the university gives staff to develop and demonstrate their talent. We will have our fingers crossed for them on the evening of the awards.”

Janine, 28, from Blythe Bridge, Staffordshire, is PR and Media Relations Manager at the university, with a specific focus on research communications and liaison with broadcast media.

Mrs Westwood said: “Janine is a highly skilled and talented PR and video journalist who has a unique combination of technical skill, creative flair, drive and energy and exceptional people skills. This has enabled her to quickly progress her career and make a real impact in the field within which she works and deliver real tangible results for Harper Adams University at a national and international level. She inspires others around her and also challenges them but in a positive way. The potential for what Janine might achieve in the future is very exciting, watch this space!”

Janine said: “I am delighted to have been nominated for an award that recognises both leadership potential and my proficiency in my role at Harper Adams. I aim to achieve results purely to protect and enhance the reputation of Harper Adams and to help keep the university in a strong position for potential future growth. But all the same, I am pleased to have been nominated and to have my achievements recognised both at Harper Adams and beyond.”

Laura, 29, who hails from Howarth, Yorkshire, is Marketing Manager for Student Recruitment and Education Liaison.

“Laura is an early career manager with responsibility for inspiring young people to enter higher education. She has an exceptional ability to understand and communicate with students, teachers, parents and employers, to creatively work with them to meet their needs. She is creative and innovative but at the same time focused on delivery and outcomes. Laura is an inspiring young marketing manager who has already influenced the future of a large number of young people. Her achievements to date are amazing, her future is exciting!” added Mrs Westwood.

Laura said: “I am honoured to have been nominated for a young leader award and am even more delighted to be in the final three for the marketing magician category. I am very much looking forward to the event in November and meeting other professionals from across the sector.

Janine and Laura will attend the University Business Young Leaders Awards in London on November 4, when the winners of all categories will be revealed.
