    RWAS17: Harper Cymry Student Award 2017 winner Sioned Williams

    "Winning the award represents the best four years of my life spent at Harper Adams University, and I am very grateful and honoured to be presented with this title.’’

    The 2017 winner of the RWAS/Harper Cymry Student Award is Sioned Williams from Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, Ruthin.
     
    Sioned has recently completed her final year exams at Harper Adams University where she has been studying for a BSc (Hons) degree in Business Management with Marketing.
     
    In her role as Student Ambassador, Sioned has represented Harper Adams University at events such as the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, the Welsh Winter Fair and University Open Days. 
     
    She has also been a member of the Harper Adams Hockey Society and Secretary of the Harper Cymru student society.
     
    Sioned enjoys helping on the family farm and has had a very keen interest in sheep from an early age. She is currently developing her own pedigree flock of Texel ewes.
     
    She is an active member of Ruthin Young Farmers Club and particularly enjoys competing in stock judging competitions.
     
    Her university placement year was spent at CF Fertilisers where she has been offered a role as a Commercial Graduate Trainee.  Her ambition is to establish her own on-farm campsite.

    Sioned said: ‘’I am delighted to have been selected as the Harper Cymry Student of the Year. There were some great candidates and after a tough application and interview process I would like to thank both judges Carwyn Rees and Hefin Richards for presenting me with the award.

    Judge Hefin Richards said: “Sioned was among a group of very strong contenders for the 2017 award. She has an excellent academic record and has also maintained a broad range of interests and extra-curricular duties whilst at Harper Adams. Her placement year was clearly a great success and we wish her well as she returns to CF in a permanent position.
     
    "We as judges look for candidate with a clear focus on the industry and future career prospects - Sioned Williams is a worthy winner and will inspire others to apply for the RWAS Harper Cymry Award in future years.”
     
    And this from the RWAS judge Carwyn Rees:
    "Having interviewed a strong array of candidates for the Harper Cymru awards, Harper Adams is fortunate to have such students who are driven and focused towards a positive future in agriculture.

    "Following a strong and interesting interview, the judges had no hesitation in selecting Sioned Williams as this year’s winner after hearing her involvement with the society and her active role over her time at University. We wish Sioned the very best following graduation and we hope that the Harper Cymru Society continues to grow from strength to strength."
