Harper holds on to WUSCA gold for courses and lecturers, job prospects and student support

"These three award categories underpin our commitment to our students – high quality courses delivered by well qualified and experienced academic staff, an outstanding level of student support, and excellent job prospects upon graduation, so we are exceptionally proud to have retained Gold in these key academic areas."

Student reviews have resulted in Harper Adams University winning three national awards – for courses and lecturers, student support and job prospects.

At the WhatUni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) in London last night, Harper Adams scooped the three gold awards, plus two silver and three bronze. Harper Adams was pipped to the post for the University of the Year award by Loughborough University. Both institutions are tied at 4.53 out of 5 in the published results but the awards organisers state that they had to take the scores to five decimal places to determine the ranking.

The Student Support WUSCA has gone to Harper Adams four years running, making it the only university to ever have won this category. The university also retained the Job Prospects gold for the third year running and Courses and Lecturers for a second year.

Vice-Chancellor, Dr David Llewellyn said: “These three award categories underpin our commitment to our students – high quality courses delivered by well qualified and experienced academic staff, an outstanding level of student support, and excellent job prospects upon graduation, so we are exceptionally proud to have retained Gold in these key academic areas. We were placed in the top three institutions in eight of the nine categories in which we were shortlisted, the best performance amongst the finalists this year, and another mark of the consistently high quality of student experience that we provide.”

More students than ever had their say in the WUSCA reviews this year, with 36,440 reviews submitted, up almost 30% on last year. The 12 main categories feature 126 institutions and 148 institutions are featured in total across all 15 categories.

Simon Emmett, Hotcourses Group Chief Executive, said: “Our collection of almost 37,000 reviews gives voice to students’ lived experiences of university and while there are challenges, the results delivered many positive comments about university experience that will help inspire prospective students faced with the difficult decision of where to study.”

Mark Leach, Founder and Editor of Wonkhe, said: “Reviews from over 36,000 students in this year’s Whatuni Student Choice Awards provide an important insight into student satisfaction at a critical time for UK higher education. The opinions of students offer a valuable resource in helping institutions remain accountable and help us understand trends across the sector.”
