“The sum raised is really magnificent. We are really grateful to those that have contributed.”
Harper Adams University and its Students’ Union (SU) have worked together to raise funds and create a new set of gates for the cemetery at St Peter’s Church in Edgmond, Shropshire.
The SU raised more than £1,300 through a series of fundraising events across last year’s academic calendar.
Giving back to the community is of great importance to the students. SU President 2017-18 Charlotte Garbutt said: “We enjoyed raising money for the church, a local cause to the university and a facility that is used by some of our students.”
The fundraising request originally came from the Parochial Church Council (PCC) as the previous gates were in desperate need of replacing.
Aside from the financial help, the university’s Estates Department also offered their services, providing guidance and support for the project.
Edric Broom of the PCC said: “The sum raised is really magnificent. We are really grateful to those that have contributed.”
