SCHOOLS AWARD GOES TO HEYWOOD COMMUNITY

A GLASS BOWL prize, awarded to recognize outstanding dedication to the development of students and their preparation for Higher Education, has been presented to a County Laois school.

Noel Daly, Course Coordinator for the Post-Leaving Certificate Plant and Agricultural Engineering course at Heywood Community School, Ballinakill, Co. Laois, received the Harper Adams in Ireland Schools Award earlier this month.

The annually awarded prize of a glass rose bowl is presented by Harper Adams in Ireland, an association of past students from Ireland who studied at Harper Adams University College, Shropshire - the UK's largest specialist institution of Higher Education for the land and food-based industries.

On this occasion, the Schools Award was given to Heywood Community School in recognition of their good work in developing their students and encouraging them to continue their studies.

Principal Professor Wynne Jones of Harper Adams University College officially handed over the award during Heywood Community School's recent visit to Harper Adams.

Students from the PLC Engineering course, which is now in its fourth year, were given an introduction to the engineering facilities and courses at Harper Adams and also had a chance to visit the JCB and Agco (Massey Ferguson) factories during their trip.
