A SERIES of discussion evenings at Harper Adams University College is focusing on topical issues in a pig industry that faces a future of major structural changes and challenges.
The next meeting takes place on October 31, 2001 and will look at the LincPork system - an integrated management system for pig production. Three speakers from RJ & AE Godfrey, PIC and George Adams and Sons will lead discussions on the system from the point of view of producer, breeder and processor.
Then on November 28, 2001, Roger Mercer, Managing Director of Mercer Farms, will lead a session on 'Pig Business Management and Marketing.'
Mr Mercer will present his views on cost control and management and marketing techniques that will sustain pig businesses in the future. Simon Breakes, Agricultural Banking Manager for HSBC will chair this session.
A very successful session on 'Disease Elimination - a concept for future profitability' has already been held. Iain Mortimer, Elanco's Pig Veterinary Technical Advisor, spoke about overall unit health management and discussed an integrated approach to eliminating disease from a pig unit.
All sessions run between 7.45pm and 9.45pm in the main building of Harper Adams University College and anyone involved in the UK pig industry is welcome to attend. Coffee and Sandwiches, sponsored by Elanco, will be provided at each event.
