    HARPER ADAMS’ BRAZILLIAN CONNECTION

    THE FLAG of a Brazilian Higher Education College will fly proudly from the flagpoles at Harper Adams University College for the next two weeks, to honour a group of South American visitors to the campus.


    The flag is a gift from the ten representatives of Faculdade de Ciencias Agrarias do Para (FCAP), an HE college situated in Belem, in the Para state of North West Brazil, who will be staying at Harper Adams until the end of the month.

    The group, which includes lecturers, students and an official from the Ministry of Education, is in Shropshire to experience Higher Education in the UK and learn about the response of UK institutions to issues including curriculum development, widening access and community involvement.

    The FCAP delegates are in the UK as part of a project, titled the “Institutional Strengthening of FCAP”, which has been awarded to a partnership between the University of Wolverhampton’s Centre for International Development and Training and Harper Adams.

    FCAP is predominantly involved in the teaching of natural resources courses, such as forestry, agriculture and aquaculture, and hopes to become more efficient at delivering courses which are of benefit to a wider and more diverse section of the population.

    In particular, the Institutional Strengthening project is designed to help FCAP improve its courses and services to include and assist the poor people living in the Amazonia region of Brazil, who are dependent upon renewable natural resources for their livelihoods.
