SENIOR LECTURER ADVISES ON NEW SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT HARPER ADAMS
Posted 14 November 2001
A SENIOR lecturer from Harper Adams University College, Shropshire, will visit Northern Ireland next week to talk to prospective students about a range of exciting scholarships that are now available.
Mr David Giles will discuss all the scholarship opportunities at the UK’s premier institution of Higher Education for the land and food-based industries but anticipates particularly strong interest in a scholarship that is being offered in conjunction with JCB.
The JCB Scholarship programme is only open to Harper Adams’ students studying for degrees in either Agricultural Engineering or one of the new suite of Engineering courses, which includes Off Road Vehicle Design and Engineering Design and Development.
A JCB Scholarship offers successful students a cash incentive of £2,000 per year, for each of the four years of their course as well as guaranteed employment during the industrial placement, sandwich year, holiday periods and upon graduation.
“All in all, the deal being offered to scholars is very good indeed,” said Mr Giles. “This type of financial assistance for your studies, combined with guaranteed employment at the end of the course, is just the sort of opportunity we need in the land-based and engineering sectors.
“In times of financial difficulty for so many families, it is good to see the industry rallying to support our young people.”
Mr Giles will also be able to offer students advice on the many other courses and scholarships, available at Harper Adams, during his visit.
An open meeting will be held for interested students at the Oaklin House Hotel, formerly known as The Inn On The Park, at Parkmount, Moy Road, Dungannon, from 7.30pm onwards on Tuesday, November 20, 2001.
