Posted 7 May 2002IF YOU HAVE EVER drawn a blank at the mention of Harper Adams or have driven past the impressive main building and wondered what went on inside, prepare for all to be revealed at a Public Open Day later this month.
Harper Adams University College, near Newport, is the UK's largest specialist institution of Higher Education for the land and food-based industries and will be throwing open its doors on Saturday, May 25.
The Open Day will give members of the public a unique opportunity to find out more about the work of the University College, the facilities and the courses on offer, as part of a day of entertainment and fun.
A tethered hot air balloon on the front lawn of the main building will take visitors up above the treetops for an unrivalled view of the campus and the surrounding estate, while those with their feet firmly on the ground can enjoy a range of activities.
These will include off-road vehicle displays, staged by Harper Adams' Engineering Department, a fresh produce farmer's market and a RAG fete, which will raise money for charity.
The energetic may like to sample Harper Adams' countryside walk or follow the Centenary history trail, while those in search of more relaxed pursuits can enjoy a cricket match between an ex-students HOBGoblins side and the college First XI.
Course talks and campus tours, a minibus trip to the Crop and Environment Research Centre and Companion Animal Centre and the opportunity to see the dairy herd being milked will round out an informative and fun packed day.
The Public Open Day at Harper Adams University College, near Newport, takes place between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday, May 25, 2002, and all are welcome.
