    Posted 27 May 2002

A READER in Engineering at Harper Adams University College, Shropshire, has been appointed President of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE).

Dr Dan Mitchell was inaugurated as President of IAgrE during an official ceremony, held at Harper Adams University College, during the institution's annual conference earlier this month.

Dr Mitchell is a former manager of the Electricity Industry's Farm Energy Centre and is currently Reader in Engineering and an Engineering Consultant for Harper Adams - the UK's largest specialist institution of Higher Education for the land and food based industries.

Dr Mitchell will serve a two-year term of office that follows on from a two-year term as President Elect. A specialist on energy in agriculture and farm buildings, Dr Mitchell brings diverse experience in management, agricultural engineering and energy research to the presidential post.

Dr Mitchell said: "I am confident that my experience in dealing with change in both the electricity and agricultural industries will benefit the Institution.

"My strategy as President is based on supporting the Institution's business plan by helping to implement a far-reaching marketing drive for new members and initiatives. Past experience has given me the necessary insight for dealing with issues facing the engineering industry today. I am looking forward to a productive two-year term."
