This year’s Royal Welsh Agricultural Society/Harper Cymry Award will be presented to Emma James, 22, of Clynderwen in Carmarthenshire at the Royal Welsh show on the 22nd – 25th July 2002.
Welsh student Emma, a former pupil of Ysgol Gyfun Ddwyiathog y Preseli in Pembrokeshire, is currently continuing her education at Harper Adams University College in Shropshire. She is studying Agriculture with Animal Science, after achieving an A in Biology at A-level.
At Harper Adams, Emma has been Chairman (2001 – Feb 2002) of the Harper Cymry Society, the Welsh students association for current and former Harper Adams University College students from Wales, and has enjoyed being an active member. Her other interests include sport, having represented her school and county in hockey and at college Emma is a member of the Ladies Rugby team. She was Club Secretary for the 1998 – 1999 season.
Emma has been a keen member of Llyn – Y – Fran Young Farmers Club and has enjoyed all aspects of her role. As part of the Pembrokeshire Public Speaking team, Emma came second in the National Young Farmers competition in Stoneleigh.
