THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) will be the Guest of Honour at Harper Adams University College's graduation ceremony later this week.
Mr Digby Jones will present more than 600 graduates with their degrees and give the graduation address during the ceremony on Friday, September 20, 2002.
Birmingham-born Mr Jones became Director General of the CBI in 1999 having previously been CBI Regional Chairman for the West Midlands. Amongst his many other commitments, Mr Jones is also a Director of Business in the Community and Chairman of the Tourism Alliance.
Harper Adams also hopes to welcome author and journalist Libby Purves to the ceremony, to present awards to those students who have successfully completed the one-year University Access Course.
In addition to the main graduation ceremony, there will also be a special, private ceremony at which 25 individual trophies and prizes will be presented to students. This will include poultry and engineering industry awards as well as prizes sponsored by organisations such as Lloyds TSB, The Worshipful Company of Farmers and The Worshipful Company of Fruiterers.
The organisers of the graduation day activities also hope to hold a turf-cutting ceremony to mark the start of construction work on Harper Adams' new Learning Resources and Engineering Design Centre. The project has been kindly supported by JCB and work is due to start on September 23.
