POSTER PRESENTATIONS SECURE BRITISH SUGAR PRIZE
Posted 26 November 2002
POSTER PRESENTATIONS given by two Harper Adams University College students from the north of England have secured both first and second place in the 2002 British Sugar Co-Products Award.Rachel Relph, 22, from Borrowdale, Cumbria, was awarded first place in the award while Paul Phillips, 22, from Warlaby, Northallerton, in North Yorkshire was awarded second place.
The British Sugar Co-Products Award is presented annually, to the student that produces the best poster demonstration as part of their final year project.
Miss Relph graduated from a Negotiated Studies degree course at Harper Adams, in Shropshire, earlier this year. Her final year poster and thesis, titled ‘The Future of the Herdwick Sheep’ not only won her the British Sugar award, but also led to her receiving the Worshipful Company of Woolmen’s Marshall Bursary.
Mr Phillips graduated from a BSc (Hons) Agriculture degree at Harper Adams in September. Judges said he worked consistently well throughout his time at the University College but achieved some of his best grades, and second place in the British Sugar award, with his poster and thesis: ‘A comparison of ploughing and minimal cultivation techniques as methods of incorporating farmyard manure into the seedbed of winter sown cereals.’
