A MATURE STUDENT from Shifnal has won the opportunity to compete for a national award for educational excellence.

Caroline Walker, 46, from Shifnal, graduated from her HND Agriculture course at Harper Adams University College, near Newport, earlier this year.

She has been named the 2002 winner of the EdExcel Student Award at Harper Adams, a prize awarded each year to the student with the best overall module grades in the final year course.

Judges said: “Carol is a mature student with a limited academic background. She has gone from strength to strength [during the course] and has achieved excellent overall grades.”

Carol now has the opportunity to go forward to the nationally contested EdExcel Award for Educational Excellence.
