HARPER ADAMS OPENS UP TO THE PUBLIC

    Posted 7 May 2003

THE UK’S TOP RURAL UNIVERSITY will give visitors a sample of the Harper Adams experience at a Public Open Day later this month.

Harper Adams University College, near Newport, Shropshire, will be open to the public between 2pm and 5pm on Saturday, May 17, 2003. Admission is free and everyone welcome.

“We want everybody to see what it is we are doing here at Harper Adams,” said Principal, Professor Wynne Jones, the man at the helm of the UK’s most popular and successful rural university.

“You may be interested in one of our new or developing areas of study. We are now offering degrees and foundation degrees in Retail, Leisure, Tourism, Business and IT, Applied Biology and Off Road Vehicle Design in addition to the more traditional Harper Adams courses.

“Alternatively, you might not realise what Harper Adams can do for you, in terms of hiring our facilities for a meeting, wedding, party or conference. You can also find out more about our new Business Clubs and the work we do within the West Midlands region. Whatever your interest, you will be most welcome.”

Harper Adams’ Public Open Day will also offer a pleasant afternoon out for all the family. There will be an Exhibitions Marquee and Farmer’s Market, as well as tours of the campus and an opportunity to see the expanding facilities and the work of the on-site farm.

Other exhibits include a tethered balloon trip into the skies above the campus and a visit to the Companion Animals Centre. Young and old alike are bound to be attracted to the Engineering Department for machinery demonstrations and the chance to take part in an Off Road Vehicle test drive.

Last but not least, if you cannot bear the thought of missing the FA Cup Final, you will be able to catch the game on the big screen in the main SU Bar – probably the longest student bar in the UK.

So, the scene is set for a great afternoon out. There is no need to book in advance but if you cannot attend and would like to find out more about future Open Days, please ring 01 952 815 000 for details.
