    VET NURSE TRAINING CENTRE OPEN

    Posted 28 May 2003

A VETERINARY NURSE Training Facility has been officially opened at Harper Adams University College, near Newport, Shropshire.

Harper Adams has collaborated with Arnolds Veterinary Products, based in Harlescott, Shrewsbury, to realise the vision of a Veterinary Nurse Training Facility for Shropshire. Arnolds kindly sponsored the equipment for the centre.

Renowned veterinary innovator Professor A. D. Humphrey opened the centre at a ceremony held on May 15, 2003. The facility will allow a new wave of veterinary nurses to train in Shropshire, beginning in September when Harper Adams launches a BSc (Hons) degree in Veterinary Nursing and Practice Management and a Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing.

Professor Humphrey is the inventor of the Humphrey ADE Anaesthetic Circuit – a unique device that is considered safe, economical, simple to use and places less stress on the animal during treatment.

Dr Humphrey developed his anaesthetic circuit while working in a mission hospital in Africa. Following its successful use in human medicine, a specialist veterinary anaesthetist in Norfolk found it particularly useful for small animal anaesthetics and after several months of trials Arnolds began marketing the device. Over 400 veterinary practices have already purchased one.
