A SHROPSHIRE STUDENT’S placement work on the Quality Control of a worldwide range of exotic fruit and vegetables has helped him win a new award.Adrian Latham, 23, of Hodnet Road, Shrewsbury, received the inaugural Tesco Award last month. The new prize, generously sponsored by the supermarket giant, will be awarded annually to a degree-level student from Harper Adams University College, based upon their performance while on placement.
Adrian is a final-year BA (Hons) Business Management & Marketing at Harper Adams, the UK’s premier specialist provider of Higher Education for the land and food based industries.
He spent his placement year at Wealmoor Ltd, based in Hayes, Middlesex. The company specialises in the production and marketing of a wide range of exotic fruit and vegetables from throughout the world and supplies major multiples and wholesalers in the UK.
Adrian worked as a quality controller, assessing the incoming produce and also established a new role within the Quality Control Department. The role, Finished Product Positive Release, involved checking the quality and specification of packed products before they could be despatched to supermarkets.
Ms Leonie Smith, from Tesco’s Corporate Affairs Department, attended a special ceremony at Harper Adams’ Shropshire campus on Friday, September 19, 2003 to present Adrian with his award.
