Posted 5 May 2004Shropshire’s only University College will be throwing its doors open to the public next weekend. Prospective students and local people will get the opportunity to find out more about Harper Adams University College, Newport, at its Public Open Day on May 15.
Admission to the event, which runs from 2pm to 5pm, is free and there will be plenty of free parking. Principal, Professor Wynne Jones, said: “We invite everyone to come along and see what we are doing at Harper Adams. It may be that you are a student interested in one of our new and developing areas of study. We offer degrees and foundation degrees in Leisure and Tourism, Retail, Business, Applied Biology and Off-road Vehicle Design, to name just a few. There are also popular courses in Veterinary Nursing and BioVeterinary Science available. Or you may be interested in one of our more traditional, but equally thriving courses, such as agriculture.
“Then there are the Business Clubs, which help the diversification of the rural economy, and use academic resources to promote entrepreneurship. Whatever your area of interest, you are very welcome to come along and see what is happening over in Edgmond.”
The Open Day is also an opportunity for people to explore their local college. There will be an exhibitions marquee, tours of the campus and an opportunity to see the expanding range of teaching facilities, as well as the working farm and Companion Animals Centre. Young and old alike are bound to enjoy a visit to the Engineering Department to watch the big machinery being operated and take part in off-road vehicle test drives.
There is no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day. If you can’t make it on May 15, but would like to find out about similar events in the future, call 01952 815000 for details.
