Taste of University Life for School Children

Pupils from across Telford and Wrekin will be enjoying a taste of university life this week.

Around 400 primary school pupils will be taking part in a two-day Children’s University at Harper Adams University College on Wednesday and Thursday, 14 and 15 July. Borough of Telford and Wrekin’s cabinet member for education, Councillor Peggie Harrison, is hoping to come along to see the children in action.

The 10 and 11-year-olds are from Wrockwardine Wood Junior School, Donnington Wood Junior School, Newport junior and primary Schools, St Georges Primary School, Crudgington Primary, Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Primary, and Queenswood Primary School, Ketley Bank.

Harper Adams students will take the pupils on a tour of the campus, help them take part in a finance game and discover what life is like for a university student. The children will also take part in one of a number of workshops, taking samples to analyse from Harper’s wildlife ponds, learning how cows transform grass into milk, and designing web pages.

This is the third year Harper Adams has participated in Children's University, working in collaboration with the Borough of Telford and Wrekin. Other Telford and Wrekin schools will enjoying similar events at The University of Wolverhampton, New College & Telford College of Arts and Technology.
