New students welcomed to Harper Adams
Posted 29 September 2004
The annual Harper Adams induction programme for new students, staged this week, addressed the issue of responsible driving and also advised students on health and safety, finance, living in the community, student support and welfare and medical advice. As part of the University College’s ongoing aim of strengthening links with the local community, Newport residents were invited to a meeting at the College on Tuesday to meet students moving into their neighbourhood. Student Services Manager, Bryony Allsop, said: “The purpose of the meeting was to get new students moving into private residencies in Newport together with their new neighbours, to discuss issues of local concern to both parties.”
After the meeting, residents and students were joined by landlords, police and councillors in one of the now well established forums to build on relations between the University College and community.
Miss Allsop added: “These forums, which have been bringing together the college community and residents for the last few years, are an excellent way of helping everyone concerned iron out any problems which may arise. They are staged about once a term but we always welcome feedback telling us what we are doing well, or if there are areas of concern that we need to address. We always respond promptly to enquiries and do everything within our power to strengthen our already strong relationship with the community, and continue helping our students make a significant contribution to local life and the economy.”
