RSPCA Prizewinners Celebrate

Six students at Harper Adams University College, Shropshire, have shared the prestigious RSPCA Award 2004. The award, which is open to final year students studying the module Animal Behaviour and Welfare (in which they pursue a short practical research project involving an investigation into some aspect of farm animal welfare) was divided between two groups of students.Helen BROTHWELL, of Nuneaton,Warwickshire; Jemma EATON, of Newtown, Powys; and Esther JAMES, of Droitwich, Worcestershire, were recognised for their project, entitled: ‘The effect of environmental enrichment on aggression in newly weaned piglets’.
Paula GRENNAN, of Co Offaly, Republic of Ireland; Rachel LOWRY, from Lifford, Co Donegal; and Maeve O’CONNOR, of Charleville, Co Cork, produced a project entitled: ‘The effect of exposure to music on behaviour and performance in dairy cows’
Both groups were presented with their prizes at the University College’s annual graduation ceremony last month.
