A student from Kirkwall is celebrating after graduating from the prestigious Harper Adams University College.
Orkney’s twenty-one-year-old Tom Reeve is due to launch his career in Aberdeen for Schlumberger as part of the North Sea GeoMarket (NSG) after completing a BSc with Commendation in Engineering Design and Development at the Shropshire university college.
Speaking shortly after his graduation ceremony in September, Tom, who will start the job in September, said he cannot underestimate the importance of a university education.
He added: “I had a fantastic time at Harper Adams. The night life was wonderful and I made a lot of good friends who I will be pals with for life.
“It was a long way from home, but going to Harper Adams has given me a lot of chances for my future within the industry. When I went for the interview for this job, they were obviously impressed with the education I have had.
“Harper Adams is well known within the industry and the fact the 96.8 per cent of students are employed six months after graduation is proof to this.”
Harper Adams recently hit high in the National Student Survey 2006, taking seventh place overall, out of 129 institutions in the UK.
Richard Jopling, head of recruitment at Harper Adams, added: “I first met Tom at a Higher Education event at Kirkwall Grammar School and was immediately convinced that we had just the right course and study environment for him.
“A university education is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can undertake and Tom is a classic example of that. We wish him every success in his future career.”
