Give it some welly... at HEC 2007!

    Posted 2 February 2007

Harper Adams University College is holding its annual Higher Education Choices (HEC) conference on the 9-10 July. If you want join other like minded students to experience university life and find out more about which course to study then make sure the dates are in your diary!

The two day residential conference for students aged between 16-18 years has been running at Harper Adams for Many years. Now in its 20th anniversary year it plans to be another huge success with some 300 students travelling nationwide to attend the conference.

Richard Jopling, Head of Liaison and Marketing at Harper Adams, stresses the advantages of attending:

"HEC has become established as the UK’s most important careers event, particularly for students wishing to study a HND or degree in one of the agricultural, animals, food or rural-based subjects. A range of industry representatives and university advisors attend to advise students on all courses and their career opportunities from plough to plate. We want students to find out more and to try out some alternative possibilities. HEC is about being given first hand professional advice and also provides students with hands-on opportunities."

The conference kicks off with a chance to visit careers stands and talk to the advisors present – an ideal opportunity to network and to gather information. That afternoon, there will be a variety of seminars. You’ll be able to attend three of these to obtain information and advice on courses and careers in your chosen subject areas.

Overnight accommodation is provided in Harper Adams’ own halls of residence, giving you a real taste of university life. An evening programme of games and activities will be hosted by the Students Union, followed by the opportunity to party the night away.

On the second day you will be given a wide choice of ‘hands-on’ activities from which you can choose three. These ‘taster’ sessions really give you an opportunity to put theory into practice, to help you choose a course that will really suit you.

Sally Bishop, the conference co-ordinator, notes that students who attend the HEC conference always have a great time.

“Students stay overnight in our halls of residence and get a first hand experience of university life. This experience also includes all the social opportunities that can be gained by meeting new people with similar interests.”

Best of all, HEC won’t make a large dent in your pocket! The conference fee including all your meals, accommodation, entertainment, group photograph and the distinctive HEC polo shirt, is just £25. Apply with a friend and you’ll pay £35 in total.
