Elanco, a leading global animal health company, has awarded three Harper Adams University College students from the island of Ireland scholarship awards. Matthew Stuart of Ballinamallard, Co Fermanagh studying a BSc (Hons) in Rural Environmental and Land Management, Gary Daly of Athenry, Co Galway studying an HND in Agriculture with Mechanisation and Stuart Lyons of Beragh, Sixmilecross, Co Tyrone studying BSc (Hons) in Agriculture with Mechanisation have each received the Elanco Animal Health Scholarship.
Elanco, who is a global research-based company that develops and markets products to improve the health and production of animals in over 100 countries, enjoys close links with Harper Adams University College. Alan Allister, Elanco Sales Manager in Ireland introduced the scholarship to assist and encourage students from Ireland to pursue further education and employment within the rural sector.
Mr. Allister was very impressed with all three candidates’ ability, knowledge and enthusiasm and said “It is very important to build industry and academic links to support and encourage our future professionals. They all showed that they have a well-formed grasp of the industry as well as possessing some outstanding personal qualities and career aspirations that will set them in good stead for the future.”
Gary Daly commented “I am extremely pleased to receive the generous Elanco Animal Health Scholarship which has been of great benefit to me with my studies.”
Stuart Lyons added “Being a student from Northern Ireland I really appreciated having this extra funding, to facilitate not only living in England, but travelling home at various times throughout the term. This is an added expense and extra funding is therefore greatly appreciated.”
The scholarship and placement support is of particular significance now because of tuition. Under these circumstances, Harper Adams University College are actively working with industry so that together they help and support students during their education and thus continue to bring highly skilled practitioners in to professional employment.
