Biomass advice at successful workshops

The Bioenergy West Midlands initiative at Harper Adams University College recently hosted two successful workshops giving farmers, small to medium business, landowners and other rural enterprises a practical guide to the installation of biomass energy systems.

Trainer Hayley Myles, from Black & Veatch, led a practical workshop session and George Fletcher, from Viessmann’s Ltd, provided a case study.

Gaynor Orton, Sustainability Business Development Manager at Harper Adams, said: “Both are very large corporations and the trainers are very knowledgeable in the renewable energy sector. The delegates were farmers, green businesses, agricultural retail outlets, environmental consultants etc and all rated the workshop day as excellent or good.

“The events introduced businesses and organisations to a practical approach to assist with the decision as to whether or not to install a biomass system. It covered project planning, choice, design and layout, fuel specifications, economics and consent issues.

"The workshop introduced metrics and fuel calculators to equip delegates with a useful, practical toolkit to take away and use in planning their own projects.

“We are now planning to introduce a similar workshop focusing on anaerobic digestion.”
