Behaviour of the grey field slug in lettuce fields following consumption of molluscicides.

    Abstract

The project investigated the behaviour of grey field slugs feeding in lettuce crops after consumption of molluscicides used for their control.

    Description

Building on the findings of an earlier laboratory study, the project investigated the behaviour of grey field slugs feeding in commercial lettuce crops following consumption of ferric phosphate pellets used for their control. After feeding on the molluscicide, the slugs moved into refuges or the upper horizons of the soil where they remained until mortality occurred. The refuges utilised included, amongst others, the small spaces between the leaves of the crop plants.
