Collaborative links reaffirmed with Worshipful Company of Butchers visit
7 August 2023

Collaborative links between Harper Adams University and one of oldest livery companies in the City of London – the Worshipful Company of Butchers – have been re-affirmed.
The Company’s Charities Committee visited the Harper Adams campus to learn about latest developments at the University, find out more about students linked to the Company’s work, and meet with staff involved with the livestock and meat sectors.
Harper Adams Honorary Professor in Agricultural Economics Bob Bansback, who helped to organise the visit, said: “Members of the committee were particularly pleased to meet up with the academic staff responsible for the supervision of five MRes students which are being funded by the WCB, and to hear more about their research.”
The visit included a tour of the campus taking in the Harper Adams Future Farm and Animal Research areas, as well as the Agricultural Engineering Innovation Centre (AEIC), the Harper Adams Food Academy and the Veterinary Education Centre which is used by students from both Harper Adams and the Harper and Keele Veterinary School.
Professor Bansback added: “There were also presentations and discussion with other key staff, and the highlight of the visit was a working dinner hosted by Harper Adams Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Lee, at which additional guests included senior directors of the four leading UK red meat companies.”
Speaking after the visit, Andrew Parker, the Master of the Worshipful Company of Butchers, said: “The whole of our visiting group were highly impressed by all that is happening at the University.
“Harper is the leading supplier of graduates to the meat and livestock industries - and we were very pleased to observe first-hand the excellence of the facilities and to witness the professionalism of the academic staff."
