University's 'standout' display named prizewinner at Newport Show

    13 July 2026

An innovative and eye-catching display has secured Harper Adams University a trade stand award at the institution’s local show.

The stands formed part of the Newport Show, which drew thousands of people to the Chetwynd Deer Park on the outskirts of Newport.

Town mayor Councillor Thomas Janke was given the honour of nudging the large trade stands at the show. On Facebook, he noted: “There were some excellent products and innovations on display, but the standout for me was Harper Adams University.

“Their attractive and engaging stand showcased a range of fascinating projects, including their own wine and protein bars made using recycled food-waste products, as well as drone technology supporting their agricultural work.

“These are certainly exciting times for Harper Adams University, and I was delighted to name them this year’s winner. Congratulations to everyone involved!”

Vice-Chancellor of Harper Adams University Professor Ken Sloan and External Shows and Events Officer Sarah Swinnerton received the award on behalf of the University from this year's Show President - and Harper Adams alumnus - George Painter.

The award-winning Riff Snacks team – made up from Harper Business and Food students – were making their first trade show appearance after returning from a European entrepreneurship competition in Latvia.

Their high-protein bars were chosen to represent the UK at the competition.

They proved to be a great hit with visitors to the Show stand – as did the chance to taste the Buttery Hill Rosé and Cambrian White wines, grown on the University’s vineyard just a mile from the show ground.
