Lucy Earland, BSc (Hons) Business Management with Marketing student, has received a John Longwill Scholarship at Harper Adams University.
Lucy, 21, from Kibworth, Leicestershire, said: “Gaining the John Longwill Scholarship will make a significant difference to my studies at Harper Adams.
“I intend to use the money to attend a number of specialist marketing courses for small businesses and entrepreneurs in rural areas.
“On placement, I worked for Breckland Orchard, a small soft drinks company based in Cambridgeshire. My role included managing order fulfilment and being the key contact with the warehouse and logistics provider.
“After graduation, I’d like to use the skills learnt on placement and while studying at university to help other farms and rural businesses promote and market their produce.
“Living on a small farm in rural Leicestershire has shown me how marketing a commodity can help consumers recognise the true value of agricultural products, leading to fairer prices and ultimately improve the quality of life for people in the rural economy.
“I’d like to thank John Longwill Agricultural Scheme for their generous sponsorship and support, I look forward to making a change to the rural economy and will endeavour to achieve this.”
